What part of the year is it best to make it?

This Breaded Beef Steak can be enjoyed year-round.  Pair it with a fresh Greek salad, lemony potatoes, or a drizzle of herbed olive oil, and you’ve got yourself a sun-soaked dish perfect for warm evenings and al fresco dining.

Where can I buy the ingredients to make Breaded Beef Steak ?

To create this Mediterranean version of breaded beef steak, you don’t need to travel far – your local grocery store will have everything you need:

  • Thinly sliced beef (look for sirloin or top round, sometimes sold as “sandwich steak”)
  • Eggs
  • Breadcrumbs (Panko or Italian-style work beautifully)
  • Flour
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (I use Parmigiano Reggiano)
  • Salt & pepper
  • Frying oil (Opt for olive oil to highlight Mediterranean flavors and get more yellow crust)

If you want to lean even more Mediterranean, consider mixing dried oregano, thyme, or lemon zest into your breadcrumb mixture.

Can I substitute any of the recipe ingredients?

Yes – you can adjust it to your taste using or omitting the Mediterranean spices.

Beef: You can try thin slices of lamb or veal – both popular meats in Mediterranean cuisine.

Parmigiano Reggiano: Use aged Manchego for a different Mediterranean flavor.

Recipe tips & tricks

Here’s how to nail your Mediterranean breaded beef steak every single time:

  • Add herbs to your flour or breadcrumbs for deeper flavor.
  • Flour – Egg – Breadcrumbs. Press crumbs firmly so they stick.
  • Fry in batches so the oil stays hot and the steak crisps.
  • Paper towels are your best friend – let that oil drip off. 😉

Wine pairings and non-alcoholic options

Whether you’re leaning traditional or going Mediterranean, you have great drink options:

A robust red like Portuguese Dão or Alentejo, or a dry rosé with herbal notes complements the steak’s richness.

Sparkling water with cucumber slices or a homemade mint lemonade adds a refreshing finish.

How long can I store the leftovers?

Store this Mediterranean steak with care to preserve its crunch and flavor. In an airtight container for up to 3 days. Individually wrap steaks for up to 2 months. Oven or air fryer preferred to maintain crispness. Avoid microwaving if you want to keep that golden crust.

There’s something comforting about breaded beef steak: its golden, crunchy exterior, the tender meat inside, and the satisfying sizzle as it hits the pan. But today, we’re giving this classic a flavorful upgrade—with a Mediterranean twist. This Mediterranean breaded beef steak infuses your traditional crispy beef with the savory, sun-kissed character of coastal cuisine.

Whether you’re crafting a weeknight meal or an elegant dinner menu, this dish is incredibly versatile—and undeniably delicious.

How to make Breaded Beef Steak

Step 1. Tenderize beef 5 minutes

Tenderize the beef to ensure it cooks evenly. You can use a meat mallet.

Step 2. Prepare breading 3 minutes

In a shallow bowl, beat the eggs until well combined. In another shallow bowl, mix together the breadcrumbs and grated Parmigiano Reggiano cheese.

Step 3. Coat beef 3 minutes

Heat oil in a deep frying pan. Dip each steak into the flour, beaten eggs, and breadcrumbs coating both sides.

Step 4. Fry beef 8 minutes

Carefully place the breaded steaks into the hot oil, working in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding the pan. Fry the beef for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown.
Remove the steaks from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.
