About the Recipe + FAQ

Share

The combination of creamy burrata, sun-ripenedย  tomatoes, and the bright, gourmet kick of fresh basil pesto is a perfect salad. This salad is very simple and doesn’t require a lot of effort. Itโ€™s an elevated twist on the classic Caprese, ideal for hot summer days, elegant starters, or anytime you want to impress without fuss.

Which season is this recipe best for?

Without a doubt, summer is the best time to enjoy this salad. Tomatoes are at their peak from June to August, bursting with natural sweetness and juiciness. Fresh basil thrives in warm weather, making this the perfect time to make a vibrant pesto. Even burrata, with its delicate, creamy center, feels made for summer – cool, rich, and indulgent without being heavy.

Where can I buy the ingredients for this recipe?

Tomatoes can be bought at farmerโ€™s markets or local produce stands will have the freshest, most flavorful varieties.

Burrata cheese is usually found in the specialty cheese section of your grocery store or Italian delis.

Fresh basil is available year-round in most produce sections; better if homegrown.

Can I substitute the ingredients in this recipe?

Absolutely! This dish is very adaptable:

Burrata can be substitutedย with fresh mozzarella or even goat cheese for a tangier profile.

If basil is unavailable, see if you can get your hands on parsley or arugula.

Cherry tomatoes, heirlooms, or even roasted tomatoes all work beautifully.

Can I make this recipe part of a menu?

Definitely. This salad is perfect as part of a light, Mediterranean-inspired meal:

For an appetizer, start with delicious Mediterranean Shrimp Croquettes,ย Mediterranean Salmon Tartare, or Bacon Wrapped Asparagus.

For a main course, you can serveย Grilled Octopus Skewers, orย Veal Cutlets.

For a dessert, go with my Bluberry Tiramisu, or Panna Cotta with Strawberry Compote.

Which drinks would you pair it with?

This tomato burrata salad pairs very well with Encruzado,ย Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio or even Prosecco.

If you enjoy a crisp dry rosรฉ, give it ago – it will complement the acidity of the tomatoes very well.

For a non-alcoholic option, treat yourself with mint tea with ice or just lemoned sparkling water.

How long can I store this recipe leftovers?

This salad is best enjoyed fresh, but you can store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 day.

Keep in mind that the pesto may darken slightly, and the tomatoes will release juice, softening the overall texture.

Recipe tips & tricks

Here are my tips on how to make this pesto sauce simply amazing:

  • Use room temperature burrata, and it tastes creamier and more flavorful.
  • Donโ€™t overdress the salad with your pesto.
  • Use a sharp knife for cutting tomatoes; they will look great and not mushy on a plate.

This Burrata Tomato Salad with pesto is one of my favorite summer salads. You will love this summer feeling dish! It’s ideal for summer days, garden lunches, or quick weeknight meals.
